Looking Back and Looking Ahead: Open Mainframe Project's 2020 Annual Report

By | March 1, 2021

<![CDATA[

2020 was a tough year. The pandemic pushed us to be different – physically and emotionally – at home, work, school and our communities. As we struggled to find our way through the rains of the pandemic, there were peaks of sunlight. The Open Mainframe Project become one of those peaks.

It became a place where individuals, teams and members worked together on a variety of things they were interested in and passionate about. The camaraderie and collaboration helped push many milestones for the Open Mainframe Project including:

 • Doubling the amount of projects and working groups hosted – moving from 8 to 17.
 • Immediately responding to the COBOL demand with resources – volunteer forum, Q&A, training course, working group and more!
 • Celebrating our 5th anniversary – we’ve increased membership by 225% and projects by 1600% since launch
 • Welcoming new members HCL, Micro Focus, Red Hat, Software Engineering and Yadro to the ecosystem
 • Our inaugural Open Mainframe Summit in September
 • A new technical resource led by the Zowe community, a virtual Hackathon and an updated Zowe Conformance Program

Learn more about all the milestones and great work the Open Mainframe Project community completed last year in our 2020 Annual Report. Read it here.

We truly are proud of everything accomplished and can not thank our members, student mentees, mentors, developers, leaders, ambassadors and committers enough. Thank you for all of your hard work! We look forward to a better 2021 with a strong, vibrant and diverse community.
